Response to Matt Prince – Disney’s Social Media Manager

Have you ever made a complaint on any of your social medias about Disneyland? As ridiculous as that sounds, being that Disneyland is the “Happiest Place on Earth”, there are a few people out there who unfortunately do not receive the happy experience expected. For those that don’t know, there is a prince charming somewhere in a castle monitoring everything that is being said about the Disney parks, his name is MATT PRINCE.  Last semester, in one of the meetings of SDSU American Marketing Association (AMA), we had a guest speaker who basically, opened up my eyes. I found everything he said to be so interesting, true, and useful that I have decided to share it with those interested in learning from such a professional, Matt Prince. About Matt Prince  matt-300x251 Matt Prince is currently the social media manager for Walt Disney, where he gets to manage the first ever social media center in Disney. By using what I think is one of the best programs invented, Radian6, Prince is able to check what everybody is posting in any social network about Disney: good reviews, excellent experiences, bad comments, complaints, etc. From there, they know how to please people and enhance their Disney experience. As Prince stated, this new program, definitely affects the way they do business. He is also a successful entrepreneur and blogger. Before this, he was the director of communications for the Orange County business council and he has done a million of other things. In other words, he is amazing, became successful before even turning 26 years old and you can read more about him on his page: www.theprinceples.com Prince leaves AMArk  As soon as he came in to present in front of the entire AMA, he asked us to raise our hands as high as we possibly can. Looking all puzzled, I raised my hand up high. Then he order us to raise them higher which then I did. Funny thing is that he had already asked us to raise our hand “as high as we possibly can.” The point that he tried to make which I found to be very genius, is that “You can always be better. Be better than everyone else” That honestly left me thinking for a couple of days. Even though we say we always do “our best,” do we really? Prince also mentioned how “successful people don’t have a problem finding a job after college.” As some of you, or many of you might disagree, He is right. You might not be able to find the job you want right after college, but you will definitely be able to find something that will probably set you in the right direction. It starts with education! It might be hard and difficult to achieve your ultimate goal and you WILL fail, but as long as you stay determined and persistent, you are in the right path.    Few motivational tips from Prince himself:

“You will fail, accept it. Just learn from it, if you’re not failing, you’re not taking risks. The higher the risk, the better the outcome” “It’s okay to be patient, take your time to find your path” “Say yes, to anything. It will open way more doors that you could possibly imagine” “Be the best possible perception of yourself at all times. Live life like it was your first date everyday”

   Social Media Tips

This was my favorite part of the presentation. I have applied many of the following tips throughout all of my social networks. 1. The IFE Theory: Interesting, Funny, Educational, Intellectual, Flattering, Embarrassing. This theory could be applied to both your company’s pages and your own personal pages. It basically states that if you would like to keep your audience and have a high engagement rate with them on your page, you need to make sure EACH POST contains AT LEAST TWO of the above. 2. It is essential that all of your social medias differentiate from one another. DO NOT post the same things in every single one of them. 3. You are only as good as your Google results. BRAND YOU- your image, your name, your online ID. etc. I appreciate the amazing presentation Matt Prince had prepared for us, I hope all of you found this to be as useful and if you would like to know more about Matt Prince check out his page and twitter – Karla Uzcategui photo credit: princeples.com & disneydose.com
